B platoon pack 28 A10 cruiser tankLike the A9, of which it was an extension design the A10 had armour of 14mm and again was the result of some rather muddled thinking, having a maximum speed of 18mph and initially 2 machineguns in the front hull, soon replaced with a single Besa in addition to the co ax machinegun. The main gun, the 2pounder, was a fine gun for its day, and was the only positive feature. The A10 was designated as a cruiser tank and had several innovative design

There were innumerable variations on the design

(though some were equipped with the old 37mm main gun)

a main gun (37mmL21 which by 1940 was of little value) but effective armour

and casualties

They then fought the first battle between ironclad warships with an inconclusive result

For most casual followers of World War 2 the only thing they now about this campaign in September of 1944 was Operation Market Garden

Today they would take part in the first airborne glider assault and hold until relieved

many of the photographs
