Questions about judging or membership?
We’ve got some answers.

How do I become a WAPJA member?

Please see tab under Membership on Home Page.

How does judge accreditation work?

WAPJA expects interested people to have at least three years experience in Photo Club Activities, Professional Photography or equivalent; have entered competitions and exhibitions to get some handle on what judges are looking for in Art Photography. If there is then interest in judging then one can apply to WAPJA through this website to be a Provisional Judge.

On approval by the WAPJA Committee, the Provisional Judge is then paired with an experienced Judge as mentor for a number of judging events to help the provisional Judge understand the philosophy, language and scoring system involved in the Critique of Art Photography. The judging events will be both Remote Digital Judging and Stand-up Judging at a WAPF Club Exhibition Night.

Can our club request a WAPJA judge?

Clubs are welcome to become members of WAPJA. On approval of their membership, a Club can then access the Club's Section of the website where they can see a list of all the available Judges, each Judge's preferred photographic genre, and then choose through the website to invite a Judge to attend their competition or exhibition.

What resources are available to members?

Members are welcome to browse the Document Resources and view the Video Tutorials under the Resources Tab on the Home Page.

WAPJA holds three workshops throughout the year to stimulate and refreshen ideas and practice in Critique and Judging Art Photography. WAPJA Members can attend the workshops as part of their Membership Fee.

How often are standards and guidelines updated?

Standards and Guidelines are continuously being revised to keep abreast with trends in industry and club requirements. WAPJA conducts three workshops throughout the year to inform, encourage and equip our members with knowledge and skills in the Critique and Judging of Art Photography.

Who can access the Resources Section?

The Resources Section of the WAPJA Website is freely available to all visitors to the WAPJA Website.
